Owing to something nominally described as a "scheduling conflict," Magnolia Pictures sent word this morning that its doc Jesus Camp is cutting out of the Angelika this weekend for new digs at the Village East. This follows its warm New York reception a little over a week ago, when its opening frame pulled in over $16,000 downtown and even made a reasonably nice showing ($8,000) in its slightly counterintuitive multiplex engagement in Times Square.
Anyway, I won't be dredging up any Vachon-esque controversies today about subway rumblings or the Angelika projectors fucking up Jesus Camp's Technicolor. But if I had to read more into it, perhaps "scheduling conflicts" is a euphemism for "rats were showing up unannounced." Those little bastards never listen to reason.
