Some of today's movie news of note from around New York:
--Almost lost in the shuffle of this critic's pee break or that critic's stereotypes is the upstart Alliance of Women Film Journalists, which snuck a category called "Best Depiction of Nudity or Sexuality" into its list of year-end awards finalists. Just like at the Gothams, Shortbus went 0-fer, but at least Rinko Kikuchi's desperate, exploited teenager and Maggie Gyllenhaal's desperate, oversexed molestation victim got the call. Girl power! --Yawn: Time Magazine interviews the Weinsteins, affirms their supremacy, slips in faux-probing Michael Eisner question. Do not read this piece before operating heavy machinery.
--"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Midtown Bus Tours. If you take a look out the window to your left, you'll see Carnegie Hall, and coming up in just a moment, there's Oscar-winning actress Renee Zellweger in the middle of 57th Street. Hello, Ms. Zellweger. Moving on..."
--Headline of the Day (Re Dakota Fanning's directing ambitions): "But What I Really Want to Do is Babysit"
