Jesus Jesus IV on: Screening Gotham: Peter Guber Takes Staten Island to Next Level
Some of today's movie news of note from around New York:
--From the I Must Look Into This Later Dept.: Hollywood titan Peter Guber (right) assumed the chairman position for the Staten Island Film Festival, which launches its second go-around next June. Said borough President Ed Burke, "The borough of Staten Island is proud to have a well-known figure, Peter Guber, from the film industry, to be Film Industry Chair." I foresee a succession of Waiting for Guffman moments in the offing, including a climactic, "But, but -- you're from the film industry!" "Sorry, pal, I'm from Dongan Hills." Anyway, congrats, S.I.
And a few quickies as I rush out the door:
--Via The Carpetbagger: “Young man, I am not showing you any tickets. I am Cindy Adams.” Alas, she was only "momentarily detained."
--Peter Boyle, dead at 71. I think I speak for everyone when I say, "Arrrrrggrggrrhghhhhgrh!"
--Last heads-up for tonight's Automatons opening at the Pioneer: The Tall Man! Angus Scrimm! Live and in person! OMG!

Jesus. Angus Scrimm. I had his autograph back in high school from a Fango Weekend of Horrors. Along with Englund, Savini, Gunner Hansen...
