Screening Gotham: People Get Paid For This?

By Christopher Campbell, guest editor

Some of today’s movie news of note from around New York:

-- It’s bad enough the studios keep reprocessing the inspirational sports movie, but do they really need to pay so much for “new” versions? Universal just paid millions for rights to NY Times writer Warren St. John’s refugee soccer story that was published last weekend.

-- I’m not sure what is funnier: The fact that someone is adapting Xanadu for Broadway, or that actors were told to watch Clash of the Titans to prepare for auditions. Two wrongs still don’t make a right. Right?

--War of words: J. Hoberman writes another 6,000 words about his dislike for Steven Spielberg. Matt Zoller Seitz writes another 2,000 words about his dislike for Hoberman’s dislike for Spielberg.
