Today's movie news of note from around New York:
--Many thanks to the gossips at New York Magazine and Page Six, without whom our weekend box-office recaps just wouldn't have the bile flavor you crave: The former features an item noting how Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain floundered over the Thanskgiving frame; the latter has Emilio Estevez's idealistic Bobby tagged as "Holiday Turkey."
--And don't think the hits got away unscathed, either; Cindy Adams finds Casino Royale's Daniel Craig "neither gorgeous nor suave" and says outright, "I hated the movie." Gosh, what a snob! Oh, wait.
--Also in the Post, fashion editor Serena French breaks down the poor-little-rich-girl stylings of the perpetually in production Edie Sedgwick biopic Factory Girl.
--How is this for a must-listen podcast? "The Fountain flopping; Peter Jackson lying to his fans; New Transformers images; Smurfs trilogy; Are we sick of Jack Black?; Why does no one buzz about Denzel Washington anymore?; Stuff we've watched on DVD and TV recently." Hot!
--This stays on the New York beat if only because I can't very well stop now: Director Anton Corbijn is on the hook -- Peter Hook -- in the increasingly troubled production of his Joy Division saga Control. (Via Cinematical)
--Jesus Christ!
