Some of today's movie news of note from around New York:
--Hats off to Today co-host Meredith Viera, who spiced up the week's least imaginative publicity push -- skating with Blades of Glory star Will Ferrell at Rockefeller Center -- by nearly cracking her head open in a spill on the ice. The stunt pleased Katie Couric loyalists, who nevertheless spent much of Monday insisting that a braver, more committed host would have fallen face-first.
--The mad geniuses at Court 13 -- including Brooklyn filmmakers Ray Tintori (he of the Sundance sensation Death to the Tinman) and Benh Zeitlin (Slamdance '05 alum with Egg) -- have launched a mystifying, melodramatic and thoroughly brilliant trailer for their waterlogged post-Katrina adventure Glory at Sea. Feature forthcoming, but check this out in the meantime. (Hat tip: Rooftop Films, whose Filmmakers' Fund covered a portion of the budget)
--It's official (if anticlimactic): Scott Rudin is New York's worst boss. (Earlier: The scorecard)
--Reeler associate John Lichman test-drives video on the Washington Square News Web site with guinea pigs Dan Crane and Alexandra Lipsitz -- the star and director of Air Guitar Nation. Arguably, the show peaks early with young Lichman's own destabilizing air-shred, but Lipsitz's aviator sunglasses are kind of riveting in their own right.
