The weekly run-through of snark-squashing movie news of note from around New York:
--At long last, Staten Island will have a movie bearing its name. Bonus: It stars Ethan Hawke! Where could this possibly premiere in summer 2008?
--Continuing her week-long thrall over NYC in advance of The Namesake, Mira Nair joined Donna Karan to find their inner peace with New York Magazine: "Nair: I walk in Riverside Park as many times a week as I can. Karan: Nature, nature, nature, nature, nature, nature!" In the spirit of equal time, hawkish NY Post film scribbler and global-warming denier Kyle Smith is getting married. Love is everywhere.
--"A source" tells Gawker that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are planning a move to the Dakota Hotel. Which will hopefully make his next commute to the Ziegfeld that much easier.
--The single best film read of the week is a little roundabout at times, but the payoff in Andy Horbal's mixtape theory/sports TV/film studies opus The Passion of Patrick Sparks and Other Stories is worth every word (and college basketball screen-capture).
--But the best lede of the week has to belong to Steve Dollar in today's New York Sun: "Let no one fault Black Snake Moan for any lack of hellacious whap-a-dang." You listening, Dana Stevens? Whap-a-dang!
