As per tradition, some of this week's more upbeat movie news of note from around New York:
--The NYC reporter/actress showdown Interview opens today with a pronounced narrative limp but also with valiant performances by Steve Buscemi and Sienna Miller. While we were busy with Buscemi, New York Magazine's Logan Hill caught up with Miller; their metaphysical give-and-take in this week's issue is compelling, reasonably candid and thoroughly refreshing. Read to the end for Hill's unflinching headline sharing ("Sienna Miller Tags After Uninterested Jude Law"), and learn why you need to be careful what you say to Buscemi on the set.
--I guess that perceiving Sharon Waxman's reassignment from The Times' film beat to its Metro desk as a good thing might actually go against the spirit of All-Positive Friday. Is that just bitchiness on my part? Maybe, but look at it this way: If this news doesn't make you smile, you probably wouldn't be reading this blog in the first place. So, yeah, happy trails, Sharon.
--It took an insaaaaaaaane on-air showdown between the disgraced cousins behind the Crazy Eddie electronics chain to interest Danny DeVito in snapping up the rights. But there you have it. I'm looking forward to this one, if only for the commercials.
--This is the funniest thing I have ever seen:
