This just in from the gang at the 92nd Street Y, which had to recalibrate its Reel Pieces schedule after the abrupt dropping out of Steven Soderbergh and his Dec. 7 preview of The Good German (he is still "re-shooting something or other," we hear): Another Oscar-winning director his bring his own awards bait to the Upper East Side -- namely, Anthony Minghella, whose Breaking and Entering features Jude Law, Juliette Binoche and Robin Wright Penn among others in a bit of class-conscious London emo. We should have known that mega-connected event organizer Annette Insdorf would pull off some kind of miracle. Or at least have a Weinstein publicist's phone number. Either way, it's a power too formidable to comprehend, especially today, when Reeler HQ feels like it could implode at any minute.
So I'll shut up and say no more, except that tickets are $35 and are on sale now.
