A couple of local films stole the show in Scandinavia this weekend as Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ryan Gosling took home the acting prizes at the Stockholm International Film Festival. Gyllenhaal scored for her ex-con-in-crisis turn in Sherrybaby, while Gosling won for his work as a drug-addicted Brooklyn teacher in Half Nelson.
Follow the link for a jury statement confirming Gyllenhaal's proficiency in the old Swedish stand-bys of "struggle, guilt and broken dreams." Gosling's "Method approach to vanquished middle-class idealism" was not mentioned, but rest assured it was hardly overlooked.
