BAM has had its upcoming New Czech Cinema series announced for a little while now, but this is the first I've heard that director Jan Svankmajer and actor Ivan Trojan will be crashing Kings County for a friendly filmgoer chat. Svankmayer, whose gore-core nightmare Lunacy appeared at Tribeca before a summer fling with Film Forum (and recently won the Czech Republic's backing as its 2006 foreign-language Oscar submission), will bring the film to Brooklyn for one night only, Nov. 3. Meanwhile, Trojan will be in attendance Nov. 5 to discuss Wrong Side Up, in which he portrays a disaffected airport worker whose attenuated family and social fabric unravels absurdly around him.
The live-action/animation combo Shark in the Head, romantic class drama Indian and the Nurse and quirky Something Like Happiness round out the program sans special filmmaker appearances. Hmph -- deadbeats. Anyway, check out program and ticket information here.
