I've been in deadline hell since yesterday afternoon, otherwise I would have gushed at the time about BAM's forthcoming tribute to Ingmar Bergman. It's not particularly new news -- Shame was long ago booked in the ongoing Jonathan Lethem Selects series, and Persona and Fanny and Alexander have been lined up since at least September -- but a few gleaming details flickered into The Reeler inbox late Monday: Persona co-star Bibi Andersson will introduce the film's 6 p.m. screening on Nov. 20, while Fanny's Ekdahl family nanny Pernilla August will introduce the three-hour theatrical cut Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.
This is in addition to Lethem's own introduction on Nov. 20 and the free tribute slated for Nov. 19 (open to the public at the BAM Harvey Theater), during which Andersson and August will be joined by Lena Olin, Peter Stormare, Philip Lopate and others in memorializing Bergman. Tickets for the screenings are still available at BAM's Web site.
