I know that right about now there are dozens of Gotham cinephiles mouthbreathing to a 911 operator something along the lines of, "Oh my God... (Wheeze) ... Bela Tarr at BAM ... (Cough) ... Send help..." And more than a few lit types likely have their tweed in a twist about the Cinematek's Graham Greene film noir program. But these just-announced February happenings slump ashamedly in the shadow of another BAM event that -- by natural law -- can have no equal:
GGRD GOES TO THE MOVIES, FEBRUARY 27
ROLLER DERBY SHORTS PROGRAM, Various Artists
Can't wait for the new season of New York's own Gotham Girls Roller Derby to start? Come spend a night with your favorite speed demons as we present a special program of roller-skating themed shorts, clips, and much more! You'll see clips from classic Derby-exploitation films, rare shorts from the silent era, cartoons, and a sneak preview of an upcoming documentary on GGRD! Then join us afterwards for a party at [TBC] with free drinks courtesy of [TBC]. Featuring appearances by GGRD skaters & special guests!
Goddammit -- I should have known I wouldn't be able to stick to that New Year's resolution forbidding trips across the East River. Alas.
